Insurance Jack Life Hack: 3 Last Minute DIY Halloween Costumes

Halloween is arguably one of the best holidays of the year. There’s fun for every age group, tons of treats and candy to eat, and the expectations and effort are as low as you want them to be.

That’s why in this installment of Insurance Jack Life Hack, we’re talking about Halloween costumes you can throw together the night before from items you already have in your home. So grab yourself a bowl of those mini chocolate bars you were supposed to be saving for trick-or-treaters and dig into these costume ideas.

Pig in a Blanket

Pig costume, meet blanket. It’s easy, funny, and comfortable. What more could you ask for in a costume?

What You’ll Need: Blanket, Red Solo cup and string for a pig nose, hairband and pink construction paper for pig ears (optional), pink clothes (optional), pink construction paper curly tail (optional).

Pros: It’s not often you get the opportunity to wear a blanket in public. Take it.

Cons: Bacon jokes.

Paperbag Princess or Prince

By now, generations of kids have grown up reading and loving the story of a fiery princess who defeats a dragon to save her prince, but dumping him when he critiques her unkempt appearance.

If you’d like to make this a duo costume, it’s a fun idea to re-write the end and give the Paperbag Princess an equally papery prince who will appreciate her unique sense of style. In a sea of Snapchat filter and Hillary and Trump costumes, this option will be a little bit of wholesome, throwback goodness.

What You’ll Need: Inside out yard waste bag(s), homemade crowns, brown and black eyeshadow (for soot).

Pros: Becoming instant friends with anyone who gets your costume right away (kindred Munsch spirits!). Can be a couple’s or solo costume.

Cons: Not the most comfortable thing in the world to wear paper clothing, potential rips, crinkling noises.

Sandy and Danny

Easy is the word with this costume. It’s hard to find a person above the age of 20 who hasn’t seen that last iconic scene where Sandy emerges after her makeover and the couple flies away in the car. Plus, the movie’s experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with the wacky conspiracy theory[K1]  that Sandy’s actually dead in the movie and the final scene proves it.

What You’ll Need: For Sandy: Shiny black leggings, black top, heels, hoop earrings. For Danny: Black pants and black t-shirt, a whole lot of hair gel. Biker jackets optional for both.

Pros: Can be a couple or solo costume, instantly recognizable by most people.

Cons: If you’re not a good singer, things could get ugly.
