Inexpensive Ways to Help Prevent Home Break-Ins

Everyone wants to feel safe in their own home and protect their belongings. While Insurance Jack's home insurance policies can help with replacing your belongings, we’d prefer you always have your safety and peace of mind.  Since the season of summer vacations and long weekends is here, we thought this would be a perfect time for a few simple tips on making your home a little less intriguing to potential burglars.

Motion Sensor Lights

Relatively inexpensive and easy to install, motion sensor lights are a great choice for protecting your home.  The attention they draw can make your home less desirable to potential thieves who prefer to get in and out as quickly as possible. Consider placing them near the entry points to your home.

Make it Look Like You’re Home

By closing curtains, turning on a radio, or putting lights on timers, you can make it look like you’re home, even when you’re not. Also, a well maintained home looks like a lived-in home, so be sure to keep hedges and grass trimmed, pick up garbage and recycling bins, and remove debris from your yard.

Get to Know Your Neighbours

This one’s completely free and something you should do anyways. It doesn’t hurt to have an extra set of eyes on your house, especially someone who is familiar with your normal patterns and habits. It’s also helpful to have someone nearby who can collect newspapers, packages and flyers when you’re away on vacation, so your home looks occupied and less appealing to burglars.

At Insurance Jack, we’re always ready to talk about your policy’s coverage. Just contact us and we’ll be happy answer your questions.
